La mer et les innombrables métiers qui en dépendent fascinent mais manquent de visibilité et de reconnaissance auprès du grand public. Ces professions sont pourtant essentielles pour notre compréhension et notre gestion des océans… 

Pour pallier à cette situation, Sylvie Gobert (Professeure et Vice-Doyenne à l’enseignement de la Faculté des Sciences) décide de s’associer au photographe artiste Harry Fayt afin de créer une exposition unique qui met en lumière ces métiers de la mer de manière artistique et quelque peu décalée.

L’idée était de prendre un angle créatif et innovant pour attirer l’attention du public sur l’importance et la beauté des métiers marins. L’artiste et les scientifiques ont donc imaginé une série de photographies mettant en scène des modèles sous l’eau, en apnée, imitant des scènes de métiers terrestres. 

 L’objectif est double : d’une part, éveiller la curiosité et l’émerveillement du public par la beauté des images, et d’autre part, éduquer sur la diversité et l’importance des métiers liés à l’océan. Cette exposition ne se contente pas de montrer des images ; elle invite les spectateurs à plonger, au sens propre comme au figuré, dans l’univers fascinant des métiers de la mer.

The sea and the countless professions that depend on it are fascinating, but lack visibility and recognition among the general public. Yet these professions are essential to our understanding and management of the oceans…
To remedy this situation, Sylvie Gobert (Professor and Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Science) decided to team up with artist-photographer Harry Fayt to create a unique exhibition highlighting these professions of the sea in an artistic and somewhat offbeat way.
The idea was to take a creative and innovative angle to draw the public’s attention to the importance and beauty of marine occupations. The artist and scientists came up with a series of photographs featuring underwater models in apnea, imitating scenes from land-based professions.
The aim is twofold: on the one hand, to arouse the public’s curiosity and wonder through the beauty of the images, and on the other, to educate them about the diversity and importance of ocean-related professions. This exhibition doesn’t just show images; it invites viewers to plunge, literally and figuratively, into the fascinating world of seafaring professions.
